Prioritizing the Determining Factors of Sustainability Level in Healthcare Services

Öz

Purpose: The objective of this study is to identify the strategic factors determining the level of sustainability in healthcare and to examine their relative priority levels.
Methodology: The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, a quantitative multi-criteria decision-making technique, was employed. Factors were identified through a review of relevant literature. Experts assessed the importance of each factor on a scale of 1 to 9, employing pairwise comparison forms. The panel of experts comprised four representatives from hospitals awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and four academics in health management. The data which was collected from experts were analyzed according to the AHP method’s procedural steps, resulting in the determination of the factors' importance levels.
Findings: Factors determining the level of sustainability in healthcare were categorized into three primary groups; social, economic, and environmental. The economic factors emerged as the most significant, receiving a score of 0.4433. The rankings varied according to the participant groups; representatives from the sector identified economic factors as the most critical, whereas academics ranked environmental factors to be of paramount importance.
Originality: This study possesses unique value, as it explores the multidimensional concept of sustainability focusing on its specific implications in healthcare services and provides a general framework for measuring the efficiency and effectiveness in this field.

Sağlık Hizmetlerinde Sürdürülebilirlik Düzeyini Belirleyen Faktörlerin Önceliklendirilmesi

Öz

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, sağlık hizmetlerinde sürdürülebilirlik düzeyini belirleyen stratejik faktörlerin tanımlanması ve önem düzeylerinin analiz edilmesidir.
Yöntem: Araştırmada, nicel yaklaşımlı çok kriterli karar verme tekniklerinden biri olan Analitik Hiyerarşi Süreci (AHS) kullanılmıştır. İlgili literatürün taranması sonucu tanımlanmış olan belirleyici faktörler, ikili karşılaştırma formları kullanılarak, 1-9 arasında değerlere sahip bir skala üzerinde, ilgili uzmanlar tarafından önem dereceleri bakımından değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada değerlendirici olarak, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) sertifikasına sahip sağlık tesislerinde yönetici pozisyonunda yer alan dört sektör temsilcisi ve sağlık yönetimi alanında çalışan dört akademisyen yer almıştır. Katılımcılardan alınan değerlendirmeler AHS adımları çerçevesinde analiz edilmiş ve önem dereceleri belirlenmiştir.
Bulgular: Sağlık hizmetlerinde sürdürülebilirliği belirleyen faktörler sosyal, ekonomik ve çevresel olmak üzere üç ana kategoride toplanmıştır. Değerlendirmeler sonucu en önemli faktör grubu 0,4433 ile ekonomik faktörler olmuştur. Katılımcı grubuna göre yapılan değerlendirmelerde sektör temsilcileri en yüksek önemi ekonomik faktörlere atfederken, akademisyen grubu ise çevresel faktörlere atfetmişlerdir.
Özgünlük: Çalışmanın özgün değeri, çok boyutlu olan sürdürülebilirlik olgusunu, sağlık hizmetleri özelindeki yansımaları ile inceleyerek, bu alandaki verimlilik ve etkinlik ölçüm süreçlerine genel bir yapı sunuyor olmasıdır.
